This a story of one brave Indian women,only 22 yr old was a purser in Pan Am flight.On September 5, 1986 they were flying from Bombay to New York. They had a stop in Karachi on the way to their final destination. To the bad luck of 380 passengers and 13 flight crew, plane was hijacked at the Karachi airport by four heavily armed terrorists. Neerja alerted the cockpit crew who escaped through an overhead hatch in the cockpit.The terrorists asked to collect the passports of all passengers. She realized that the primary targets were the American passengers,she hid their passports and discarded some of them down the rubbish chute The passengers were held hostage for 17 hours on the runaway. After which the terrorists opened fire. Neerja opened emergency exit door and helped many passengers escape. She was killed while shielding three children from ruthless bullets being fired at them. Of the 380 passengers and crew members 20 were killed. If it was not for the bravery of young Indian girl,many more would have lost their lives. She was awarded the Ashok Chakra award,India’s most prestigious award for bravery. She was also awarded Tamgha-e-Insaniyat award by Pakistani Government.
